FINISHED. FINALLY. A digital painting of Remus Lupin, inspired by Hagrid’s line in The Philosopher’s Stone upon giving Harry the photo album; “Sent owls off ter all yer parents’ old school freinds, askin’ fer photos”, which basically just lead to me visualising Lupin going through old photo albums looking for photos to send Harry.
About twelve and a half hours all up, twenty-four layers in PaintTool SAI.
Oh god, I’ve never thought about this moment. THIS IS REALLY FUCKING SAD. Wow. God, this is REALLY REASLLY REALL sad.
I always figured a lot of those pictures came from Remus and that parting with them was both traumatic and a relief.

Detail from Comic #799.
She had built it from scratch, each part carefully sourced and fitted just so. It was a difficult beast to manage, all fine adjustments and counter-intuitive weight distribution, but it was a challenge, and it was unique, and it was hers. Some explained how she could make it simpler, or do it a different way, but she expected that. It could be simpler, but it wouldn’t be what it was. It could be different, but then it wouldn’t be her own. It was a terrible way to get around, but at least until she tore it down for parts again, it was a real, metal, 800-lb accomplishment. She’d take the smell of smoke in her hair over the rot of unfinished plans any day.

Sometimes I say things to my friends that are just nonsensical replies based on inside jokes that have gone on waaaaaaaaaaay longer than they should. And then sometimes my friends take those things and put them on someecards. And then sometimes I laugh for hours.
